Designing an office space is not always as easy as it first appears but getting it right can be an important factor in the success of a business for a number of reasons; increase in employee morale and creativity, it can be good branding platform and it sets a great first impression.

To that end our team expert commercial painters and decorators in Yorkshire have put together our top 5 office design trends for Autumn 2018 to help you get it right!

1. Say goodbye to over the top designs

Gone are the days of over-the-top designs with unnecessary bells and whistles. Our commercial painters and decorators in Yorkshire have found that workplace design is taking a new focus, aimed towards individual’s values and experiences. Design is gearing up to improve emotional and physical well-being. Employers are providing spaces that foster creativity and where the workforce are able to refresh their minds.

2. Not your everyday work area

This approach to space has the millennial generation in mind by using open space, lots of bright colours and unconventional accessories such as bean bag chairs and big comfy sofas. This sort of space lends its self to collaboration and creativity. By providing these open collaborative spaces corporationsare hoping to attract and retain young talent.

3. Biophilic Design

With people living and working indoors for around 90% of their time there is now a movement to incorporate natural elements into the workplace. It has become best practice for Architects, Building Engineers and Designers to incorporate natural materials into buildings. Humans have an innate need to feel connected to nature and biophilic design provides this in built up areas. Plants and other organic materials make people feel calm, healthier and happier.

4. Resimercial Design

This is the marriage of commercial durability with a residential feel. As the workforce looks to its place of business to provide more opportunities to grow and connect with their teams, we look more and more to the comforts of home. Comfortable, relaxed spaces are a welcome addition to staff who like to break away from their desk for quiet independent work or to collaborate with small groups of people.

5. Mixed Materials and Texture

As technology in manufacturing develops, our senses are enticed by multilevel uses of materials and textures. Strongly influenced by the biophilic movement, spaces are integrating mixed materials that have historically not been used together in the past. Woods combined with plastics, metals, stones and concrete are the new norm in furniture and building materials. A mix of raw and luxurious materials take the nondescript space and turn it on its side. Our commercial painters and decorators in Yorkshire say thatthis is a great way to emphasize workspace zones and use of space. It is a great time to experiment and be bold!
